Roger Maller took his first art lesson in painting in 1971. He painted in oil then acrylic and finally found watercolor which is his favorite. He is a self-taught artist through research and taking many workshops taught by nationally know
n artists, including Tom Talbot, Rose Edin, Ken Hosmer, Herb Thompson, Jim Hamil, Charles Rogers, Dick Phillips and Frank Franchese. He paints in watercolor for his flat work and in acrylic for his painted eggs which have become quite famous.
He is a retired Pharmacist and has been able to do much more painting since his retirement. He also is able to travel a lot and paints wherever he goes. His paintings are a travelogue. Since his retirement, he spends his summer in Oakland, NE and his winter in Tucson, AZ. He has won many awards for his watercolors. He loves colorwhich is evident in his paintings. He enjoys conducting workshops and giving demonstrations. His paintings appear in 42 s
tates and 8 foreign countries.
He paints on acrylic and real eggs, such as chicken eggs. His painted egg of a nostalgic Nebraska farm scene was entered into a competition in Nebraska, which he won. The egg was sent to the White House in Washington D.C. He was invited to attend a special showing of the winning eggs by President and Mrs. George W. Bush. His egg is part of the President’s private collection.
Roger is a Signature member of the Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild, a member of the Southwestern League of Fine Arts, the Pima Painting Club, the Logan Valley Art Club and the Association of Nebraska Art Clubs.
He has exhibited at many locations including the Galleria Tubac; the Oakland Mercy Hospital, Oakland, NE; Art at the Depot, Onawa, IA; Art in the Park, Kearney, NE; Art Sail, Clear Lake, IA; and the Rockbrook Village Art Fair, Omaha, NE.
His awards include many first place ribbons , Best of Show ribbons and an award of excellence in the ANAC, judged by Zoltan Szabo.
